Not Diamond builds a routing layer that sits in front of a stack of LLMs and decides, per request, which model should handle it: a frontier model for a hard reasoning task, a cheaper one for routine work, instead of an application defaulting to whichever model its developers picked once and never revisited. The company has increasingly focused this routing on coding agents specifically, positioning itself as a way for AI coding tools to hit frontier-level output without a frontier-level bill on every call. Tomás Hernando Kofman, Jeffrey Akiki, and Tze-Yang Tung founded the company in San Francisco in 2024, raising a $2.3 million pre-seed round led by Defy Partners with backing from investors including Google's Jeff Dean and Hugging Face's Julien Chaumond. Accenture also invested, positioning Not Diamond's routing technology for enterprise client work. The company has since built out SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliance for enterprise buyers, and reports partnerships including a claimed 39% accuracy increase for Rootly's SRE benchmarks and public praise from OpenRouter's CEO for reducing inference costs while maintaining output quality.
