Nightwatch was founded in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2016 by Aljaz Fajmut, Matic Jurglic, and Steve Mingione, growing out of an earlier rank-tracking side project into a standalone SEO monitoring product. The company has stayed self-funded through nearly a decade, building a customer base it says now exceeds 10,000 SEO teams and agencies without raising outside venture capital. The core product tracks keyword rankings across Google, Bing, YouTube, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo down to the zip-code level across more than 107,000 locations, paired with a site auditor and white-label reporting aimed largely at agencies managing multiple clients. More recently the company extended tracking to AI systems - ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity - under the same dashboard, connecting a keyword's traditional ranking history to whether and how often it gets cited inside an AI-generated answer. Nightwatch remains a small, bootstrapped team relative to its newer, venture-funded GEO-monitoring competitors, and it has consistently posted some of the highest user-satisfaction scores in the rank-tracking category on review sites like G2.
