Mintplex Labs was founded in 2022 by Timothy Carambat and is based in Irvine, California. The company went through Y Combinator's Summer 2022 batch. Its flagship product, AnythingLLM, is an open-source desktop and self-hosted application that lets users run and chat with large language models privately on their own hardware, combining document retrieval (RAG), agents, and multiple LLM backends in one interface aimed at both individuals and enterprises wanting on-device AI. Mintplex Labs raised a $500,000 pre-seed round in September 2022 led by Y Combinator, with additional investors including UpHonest Capital and Pioneer Fund; the company has since described itself as largely self-sustaining on product revenue.
