Mindee was founded in Paris in 2018 by Jonathan Grandperrin, Olivier Rey, Mohamed Biaz and Georges Ryssen, and went through Y Combinator before coming out of stealth in October 2021 with a $14 million Series A led by GGV Capital. The company built its product specifically for software developers rather than business operations teams: a REST API with SDKs in Python, Node.js, Java, Ruby and PHP that returns structured JSON from a document image or PDF, with pre-trained models for invoices, receipts, passports, driver's licenses and resumes that work without any customer-side training step. Mindee's positioning has stayed narrow and developer-focused as competitors like Nanonets and Docsumo expanded into full workflow and business-user tooling. It publishes per-page pricing openly on its site rather than gating it behind a sales call, which has made it a common pick for startups and small engineering teams building document features into their own products. The company operates out of Paris with a presence in San Francisco and has raised roughly $23 million in total funding to date.
