Hong Kong-listed Xiamen imaging company that grew from a beauty-camera app into a multi-product AI visual creation business.

Meitu was founded in Xiamen in October 2008 by Cai Wensheng, building its early business on the Meitu and BeautyCam photo-retouching apps that became household names across China before expanding into Southeast Asia and beyond. The company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in December 2016 under ticker 1357, with Wu Xinhong serving as CEO through its transition from a consumer photo app maker into an AI-focused imaging company. Starting in 2023, Meitu rolled out a dedicated AIGC product line alongside its existing apps, including WHEE for text-to-image generation and, later, RoboNeo, an agent-driven design tool. Its 2026 Multimedia Festival unveiled eight AI products under the banner of assembling a full 'AI crew' for visual content, built around its in-house MiracleVision foundation model family, now on its sixth major version. Meitu reports between roughly 2,100 and 2,400 employees depending on the period measured, and continues to generate the bulk of its revenue from subscriptions and VIP features across its portfolio of consumer imaging apps rather than enterprise licensing.
