Lunit was founded in 2013 by six deep-learning researchers from KAIST, at a time when applying deep learning to medical imaging was still an early research pursuit rather than a funded business category. Brandon Suh joined as Chief Medical Officer in 2016 and became CEO in 2018, while co-founder Anthony Paek moved into the role of Executive Chairman; the company went public on South Korea's KOSDAQ market in July 2022 under the ticker 328130. The company's core business is cancer screening software: Lunit INSIGHT CXR reads chest X-rays, and Lunit INSIGHT MMG and DBT read mammograms and breast tomosynthesis images, together holding FDA clearance and CE marking and deployed at roughly 600 medical sites across more than 40 countries.
