LILT was founded in 2015 by Spence Green and John DeNero, who had worked together on machine translation research including projects related to Google Translate. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has raised more than $135 million across five funding rounds, including a $55 million Series C in 2022 and a $45.4 million Series D in June 2025, from investors such as Sequoia Capital, Intel Capital, and Redpoint. LILT's platform, built around what it calls a Contextual AI Engine, adapts its translation output in real time based on human translator corrections, aiming to reduce the post-editing needed on each subsequent job. The company has expanded from text translation into video dubbing and added an autonomous agent called LILT Assist in 2026, alongside connector APIs for enterprise content systems like Adobe Experience Manager, Figma, and Salesforce.
