Landing AI was founded in 2017 by Andrew Ng, the Google Brain co-founder and Coursera co-founder, out of Palo Alto, California, around a 'data-centric AI' philosophy: that fixing and curating training data matters more than tweaking model architecture, especially in manufacturing settings where defect examples are rare. The company built its platform to make computer vision usable by quality engineers rather than only machine learning specialists. Its flagship product, LandingLens, is a cloud platform for labeling images, training defect-detection models, and deploying them to cameras on a production line, with LandingEdge handling on-device inference where a cloud round-trip is too slow. Customers span electronics, automotive, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, where visual inspection has traditionally relied on manual review or rigid rule-based machine vision. More recently, the company has expanded into agentic document extraction alongside its core computer vision products. Landing AI raised a $57 million round in 2021 led by McRock Capital, with investors including Intel Capital, Samsung Catalyst Fund, and Insight Partners, and closed a further Series B round in 2025. Dan Maloney now serves as CEO, with Andrew Ng having moved to Executive Chairman.
