Julius AI was founded in 2022 by Rahul Sonwalkar, who had gone through Y Combinator's Summer 2022 batch with a different (logistics) startup idea before pivoting to build an AI data-analysis assistant; the product publicly launched in mid-2023. The San Francisco-based company operates a chatbot that lets users upload datasets (spreadsheets, CSVs) and ask questions in natural language, generating statistical analysis, forecasts, and visualizations. It has reported more than 2 million users. In July 2025, Julius AI raised a $10 million seed round led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Horizon VC, 8VC, Y Combinator, and AI Grant, plus angel investors including Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch, and Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson.
