James Hu started Jobscan in Seattle in 2013 after watching friends' resumes get filtered out of applicant tracking systems despite being qualified for the roles they applied to. The company has never raised outside funding, runs as a fully remote team of roughly 40 people, and has stayed centered on one core mechanic: paste a resume and a job posting side by side and get a percentage match score plus a list of missing keywords. Beyond the original scanner, Jobscan now covers cover letter matching, a LinkedIn profile optimization scan, resume templates, and a basic application tracker, competing against tools like Rezi, Teal, and Careerflow that have since built similar keyword-matching features into broader job-search suites.
