Imagen AI was founded in July 2020 by Yotam Gil, Ron Oren, Yoav Chai, and Shahar Polak, after Chai's own experience waiting months for wedding photos convinced the group there was room to automate the post-production side of professional photography rather than the shooting side. The company is based in Tel Aviv, with additional operations in London, and Yotam Gil serves as CEO while Ron Oren leads marketing as a co-founder. In December 2022, Imagen raised $30 million in a growth investment from Summit Partners, with participation from existing investor NFX, bringing its total funding to $34 million. The product is delivered as a cloud-based plugin for Adobe Lightroom Classic plus a standalone app, and it's aimed squarely at working photographers, particularly wedding and portrait shooters, who edit large volumes of images and want the output to still look like their own style rather than a generic filter. Imagen charges on a pay-per-photo basis layered with volume-tier subscriptions, a pricing model that differentiates it from most flat-fee competitors in the category.
