Ideogram was founded in 2022 in Toronto, Canada by Mohammad Norouzi (CEO), William Chan, Jonathan Ho, and Chitwan Saharia, a team with backgrounds at Google Brain, UC Berkeley, CMU, and the University of Toronto. The company builds AI models and products for text-to-image generation, notably strong at rendering legible text within generated images, targeting logos, posters, banners, and other design use cases. It later expanded with Ideogram Canvas (an infinite creative board with Magic Fill and Extend) and announced Ideogram Video in early 2026 as part of a broader push toward an AI design studio. Ideogram raised a $16.5M seed round in 2023 and an $80M Series A in February 2024 led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Index Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Pear VC, and SV Angel, for roughly $96.5M in total disclosed funding.
