Hudl was founded in 2006 in Lincoln, Nebraska by David Graff, Brian Kaiser and John Wirtz, then students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, under the original company name Agile Sports Technologies. The idea started with football coaches trading game film on DVDs and grew into a cloud platform for uploading, tagging and sharing video. Hudl now says it serves more than 200,000 teams across over 100 countries in dozens of sports. The company grew through acquisitions including Krossover, Wyscout, InStat and Sportscode, bringing scouting reports, soccer-specific analytics and frame-by-frame video coding under one roof. It has raised more than $230 million from investors such as Accel Partners and Bain Capital while remaining privately held, with headquarters still in Lincoln. The current product line spans the core Hudl video-exchange platform, Hudl Focus autonomous recording cameras that remove the need for a student manager filming from the stands, Hudl Assist's human-coded breakdown service, Sportscode for elite-level video tagging, and Wyscout for soccer recruitment and scouting.
