Hippocratic AI was founded in 2022 by Munjal Shah, a repeat entrepreneur who previously built and sold Andale and Like.com, alongside a group of co-founders spanning physicians, hospital administrators and AI researchers from institutions including Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Microsoft, Google and Nvidia. The company emerged from stealth in 2023 with a $50 million seed round and built its safety architecture around a constellation of models called Polaris, designed specifically for non-diagnostic, patient-facing conversations such as post-discharge check-ins, chronic care follow-up, and appointment scheduling. Rather than launching with a single model and hoping for the best, Hippocratic AI built out Physician and Nurse Advisory Councils, now drawing on a review network the company says spans thousands of licensed nurses and hundreds of physicians who validate agent responses before and after deployment. The company reports its agents have completed over 180 million patient interactions with a 99.90 percent correct-advice rate on its own internal safety metrics and a reported 0 percent severe harm rate, figures the company publishes itself rather than ones verified by an outside auditor. Hippocratic AI has raised roughly $404 million across several rounds from investors including General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz and Premji Invest, reaching a $3.5 billion valuation after a Series C round in November 2025. Health systems including Universal Health Services have deployed its agents for post-discharge patient engagement, and the company has more recently pushed into inpatient settings with a voice assistant aimed at nurses rather than only patients.
