Helicone gives developers a one-line way to see everything happening inside their LLM application: every request, its cost, latency, and the exact prompt and response, logged and searchable in a dashboard. What began as a pure observability tool has expanded into a full AI gateway, routing requests across more than 100 models with caching, rate limiting, and automatic fallbacks built in. Justin Torre, Barak Oshri, and Scott Nguyen founded the company in San Francisco in 2023 and took it through Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch. Its open-source core and generous free tier made it a common first stop for teams that wanted cost and token visibility without adopting a heavier MLOps platform, and it grew to serve more than 16,000 organizations logging trillions of tokens. In March 2026, Mintlify, the documentation platform used widely across the developer tools industry, acquired Helicone, with members of the founding team joining Mintlify's San Francisco offices. The product continues to operate and ship updates under the Helicone name post-acquisition.
