Hasura

Data access platform that turns databases and APIs into a unified GraphQL layer, now also powering PromptQL, its natural-language data agent.

Hasura was founded in 2017 by Tanmai Gopal and Rajoshi Ghosh in Bangalore, initially to solve a problem the founders kept hitting while building consumer apps: writing the same CRUD API code over and over. The open-source Hasura GraphQL Engine, released in 2018, generates a full GraphQL API directly from a Postgres schema, complete with relationships, permissions, and subscriptions, and has since been downloaded hundreds of millions of times. The company later extended that idea into Hasura DDN (Data Delivery Network), a supergraph that can join data across Postgres, MongoDB, Snowflake, BigQuery, and REST/HTTP sources in a single query. In 2024 Hasura introduced PromptQL, which uses an LLM to write a query plan against that same data layer and then executes it as real code rather than asking the model to compute answers itself. Hasura has raised over $130 million from investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners and Greenoaks Capital, reaching unicorn status after a 2022 round, and operates out of San Francisco and Bangalore.
