Harness was founded in San Francisco in 2017 by Jyoti Bansal, who previously built and sold AppDynamics to Cisco for $3.7 billion, alongside Rishi Singh. The company set out to package continuous integration, continuous delivery, feature flags, cloud cost management and security scanning into one platform rather than the dozen separate tools most engineering orgs had stitched together with scripts. It's since grown into one of the larger independent players in the CI/CD space, competing directly with Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab and GitHub Actions. In 2023 Harness introduced AIDA (AI Development Assistant), which reads build and deployment logs to explain failures, suggest fixes, and flag security vulnerabilities against known CVE and CWE databases. The company raised a $240 million Series E in December 2025 led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives at a $5.5 billion valuation, reporting more than $250 million in annual recurring revenue and over 1,700 employees worldwide, with customers including Toyota, Barclays and NCR.
