H2O.ai was founded in Mountain View in 2011 by Sri Ambati and Cliff Click, with Ambati continuing as CEO. The company built its reputation through open-source machine-learning libraries, particularly H2O-3 and Sparkling Water, which became popular with competitive data scientists on platforms like Kaggle before H2O.ai commercialized the technology into a paid product, Driverless AI, for automated feature engineering and model tuning. H2O.ai has raised roughly $250 million in total funding, with investors including NVIDIA, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo, and it has increasingly positioned itself around private, on-premises and airgapped deployments for banks, insurers and government agencies wary of sending data to external cloud APIs.
