Gumloop was founded in 2023 by Max Brodeur-Urbas and Rahul Behal, who started the project as a side effort in Vancouver before moving it into a San Francisco-based company. The platform lets users drag and drop 'nodes' onto a canvas to build automations, called flows, that combine AI reasoning steps like summarization and classification with traditional app integrations. Typical customer use cases include employee onboarding, invoice reconciliation, support-ticket triage, CRM updates, and RFP preparation, positioned toward AI-heavy workflows where a step needs to reason or classify rather than just move data between two apps. That distinguishes it from Zapier and Make, which handle simple trigger-action automation well but need external AI APIs bolted on for anything more complex. Gumloop raised a $50 million Series B led by Benchmark, following a $17 million Series A from Nexus Venture Partners, bringing total funding to roughly $70 million. Customers include Shopify, Ramp, Gusto, Samsara, and Instacart, and the company competes most directly with n8n for technical teams and Zapier or Make for less technical ones.
