Guardrails AI was founded in 2023 by Shreya Rajpal alongside Diego Oppenheimer, Safeer Mohiuddin, and Zayd Simjee. Rajpal, who serves as CEO, had previously worked on safety-critical ML systems in the self-driving industry, an experience she has cited as direct inspiration for treating LLM guardrails as infrastructure rather than an afterthought. The company's core product is an open-source Python framework that wraps LLM inputs and outputs with validators—structured checks that can catch hallucinations, prompt injection, PII leakage, toxic language, and off-format responses before they reach a user. Guardrails Hub hosts more than 60 community-contributed validators that developers can drop into a pipeline without writing detection logic from scratch, and the framework's RAIL spec lets teams enforce structured output schemas on top of any LLM. Guardrails AI raised a $7.5 million seed round led by Zetta Venture Partners, with participation from Bloomberg Beta, Pear VC, GitHub Fund, and angel investors including Ian Goodfellow. The company remains a lean team based in Menlo Park, California.
