Code review platform built around stacked pull requests, now paired with an AI reviewer, used by engineering teams at Shopify, Figma and Perplexity.

Graphite was founded in 2020 by Merrill Lutsky, Greg Foster and Tomas Reimers, three engineers who had worked with internal stacked-diff tooling at larger tech companies and wanted to bring the same workflow to teams without that infrastructure. The core idea is straightforward: instead of one large pull request, engineers break work into a stack of small, dependent PRs that can each be reviewed and merged independently, with Graphite's CLI and VS Code extension handling the rebasing that would otherwise make this workflow painful. The company has raised roughly $81 million, including a $52 million Series B led by Accel with participation from Menlo Ventures' Anthropic-affiliated fund, Shopify Ventures and Figma Ventures. In March 2025 it launched an AI code reviewer, initially branded Diamond and later folded into the product as Graphite Agent, which reviews every pull request for bugs, security issues and style problems before a human does. In December 2025, Cursor-maker Anysphere agreed to acquire Graphite at a price reported to be well above its prior $290 million valuation; the two companies have said Graphite will keep operating as a distinct product while deeper integration work continues through 2026. Graphite is headquartered in New York and serves tens of thousands of engineers across more than 500 companies, including Shopify, Snowflake, Figma and Perplexity.
