Glimpse.ai was founded in 2020 by Alex Cardinell, who had previously founded the AI research group Cortx, and is based in Baltimore, Maryland. The company self-funded its work rather than raising venture capital, and in 2023 launched Nomi, an AI companion app aimed at users who wanted a chatbot that could sustain a consistent, evolving relationship over months rather than resetting every conversation. Nomi has grown largely through word of mouth and its own community rather than paid marketing, reporting more than a million users who have tried building a relationship with a Nomi companion.
