GLAIR (short for GDP Labs Artificial Intelligence Research) was founded in Jakarta in 2018 by Michell Setyawati Handaka, who continues to lead the company as CEO and chief scientist. It grew out of GDP Labs, the technology arm connected to GDP Venture, the investment firm behind Indonesian internet group Kompas Gramedia's digital ventures, which has also backed companies like Tokopedia in its portfolio history. The company focuses squarely on regulated industries - primarily banking, finance and insurance - where document verification and identity checks are both high-volume and compliance-sensitive. Its named clients include Bank Central Asia (BCA) and its finance affiliate, Bank Mega, and consumer companies like Djarum and Polytron, and it has partnered with AWS, NVIDIA, Intel and AI Singapore on its technical infrastructure. GLAIR remains a comparatively small, focused team of around 50 people across its Jakarta offices, positioned as a specialist AI vendor for Indonesian enterprises rather than a broad regional platform, competing for the same financial-sector AI budgets as larger Southeast Asian identity and document-processing vendors.
