San Francisco video-AI lab founded by brothers Paras and Ajay Jain, known for Mochi 1, one of the largest openly licensed text-to-video models.

Genmo was founded in San Francisco in 2022 by brothers Paras Jain, a UC Berkeley PhD who worked on projects at Google DeepMind and Tesla's DeepScale, and Ajay Jain, whose graduate research on diffusion models helped establish the architecture now used across image, audio, and video generation. The company describes its mission as putting a filmmaker's toolkit in the hands of ordinary users through natural-language video creation. Genmo's most prominent release, Mochi 1, launched in October 2024 as a 10-billion-parameter open-source text-to-video model released under an Apache 2.0 license — at the time the largest openly licensed video generation model available, with benchmarked quality comparable to closed competitors like Runway's Gen-3, Luma's Dream Machine, and Kuaishou's Kling. Genmo raised a $28.4 million Series A led by NEA, with participation from The House Fund and Gold House Ventures, and offers both the open weights for local or cloud deployment and a hosted Genmo platform with subscription tiers for people who'd rather not run the model themselves.
