Genius Sports traces back to Betgenius, founded in London in 2001 by Mark Locke to supply real-time betting data to sportsbooks. In 2016, Betgenius merged with SportingPulse, a sports data and software business founded by Nick Maywald, to form Genius Sports Group. The company listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021 through a SPAC merger under the ticker GENI. Its core business is capturing official live data, video and streaming rights for leagues including the NFL, NBA, EPL and FIBA, then distributing odds, stats and video feeds to sportsbook customers such as FanDuel, DraftKings and bet365, alongside integrity monitoring services for federations watching for match-fixing. Genius Sports reported group revenue of roughly $511 million in 2024, up about 24% year over year. In 2024 it also launched GeniusIQ, a computer-vision and machine-learning platform for performance analytics, and BetVision, a live video product that overlays official broadcast streams with real-time odds and bet slips, now carried inside most major U.S. sportsbook apps.
