Freeplay
AI engineering platform for testing, evaluating, and monitoring LLM products, built for both engineers and product teams.

Freeplay gives teams a shared workspace for the parts of building an LLM product that usually get scattered across spreadsheets and internal scripts: prompt experimentation, offline evaluation before a release, and production monitoring once it ships, with production logs convertible directly into new test cases. The design goal is letting product managers and other non-engineers participate in prompt iteration without every change routing through an engineer. Ian Cairns and Eric Ryan, who worked together at Twitter after it acquired their previous company Gnip, founded Freeplay in 2022 and are based in Boulder, Colorado. The company raised a $5.6 million seed round led by Renegade Partners, on top of an earlier $3.25 million round, bringing total funding to roughly $14 million. Freeplay markets itself as enterprise-ready from the start, offering SaaS, self-hosted, and multi-region deployment options rather than starting cloud-only and adding self-hosting later, an approach aimed at larger companies with compliance requirements around where prompt and completion data lives.
