Freeletics GmbH
Munich-based bodyweight training app whose AI coach builds and adapts HIIT and calisthenics plans without any equipment.

Freeletics started in 2013 as a free workout PDF shared among Munich gym-goers before founders Mehmet Yilmaz, Joshua Cornelius, and Andrej Matijczak turned it into an app built around bodyweight HIIT circuits — burpees, pistol squats, mountain climbers — that need no equipment. In 2018, FitLab and a group of investors including Causeway Media Partners and Jazz Venture Partners bought a controlling stake from the three founders, who exited the company entirely. The Coach product assigns daily workouts from a rotating library of more than 30 training programs and adjusts difficulty based on logged performance, aiming to mimic what a human trainer would change week to week. A separate Nutrition add-on handles meal planning and macro tracking. Daniel Sobhani has led the company as CEO since the FitLab acquisition, and Freeletics now runs a team of just over 100 people, still headquartered in Munich.
