Michael Guan and Jay Ma founded Final Round AI in San Francisco in 2023, building the company around a contentious idea: an AI copilot that listens to a live interview through a screen-share or headset and streams suggested answers and talking points to the candidate in real time. The company raised $6.88 million in an oversubscribed seed round led by Uncork Capital in January 2025 and says it has been used by more than a million job seekers across upward of 100 countries. Beyond the live copilot, Final Round AI also sells structured mock interview practice and a searchable bank of real interview questions sourced from companies including Google, Meta, and IBM. The live-assistance feature has drawn attention from HR commentators and hiring managers who argue undisclosed AI use during an evaluation misrepresents a candidate's actual ability, a debate Final Round AI's own marketing leans into rather than avoids.
