Figma is a web-based collaborative design platform best known for browser-based interface design and prototyping that allows multiple users to edit the same file simultaneously in real time. The product suite includes FigJam, an online whiteboard, and developer handoff tools. Figma was founded in 2012 by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace, who met as computer science students at Brown University; Field took a Thiel Fellowship to build the company. Evan Wallace left the company in 2024. Figma is headquartered in San Francisco. Figma raised venture rounds including a $200 million Series E in June 2021 at a roughly $10 billion valuation. In September 2022 Adobe announced an agreement to acquire Figma for approximately $20 billion; the deal faced regulatory scrutiny and was mutually terminated in December 2023, with Adobe paying Figma a $1 billion breakup fee. Figma filed for an IPO in 2025 and began trading on the NYSE under ticker FIG on July 31, 2025, priced at $33 per share and valuing the company at approximately $56 billion at listing.
