Fetch.ai is a Cambridge, UK-based AI company founded in 2017 by CEO Humayun Sheikh, an early DeepMind investor, alongside Toby Simpson and Thomas Hain, to build autonomous software agents that can discover, negotiate, and transact with each other without human micromanagement. The company raised early funding through a private round and a 2019 Binance Launchpad token sale, and has spent the years since building an open-source agent stack: uAgents, a lightweight Python framework for building agents; Agentverse, a hosting and discovery marketplace for them; and ASI:One, a Web3-oriented large language model designed to route tasks to those agents automatically. In 2024 Fetch.ai became a founding member of the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, merging its FET token with SingularityNET and Ocean Protocol under a shared push toward decentralized AGI research and infrastructure. By 2026 the Alliance was shipping ASI:One, an ASI-1 model family, and early compute and chain products, with Fetch.ai's agent tooling forming much of the practical, developer-facing layer. The merger has been rockier than advertised: Ocean Protocol withdrew from the Alliance in October 2025 amid a public dispute over token transfers, Fetch.ai's CEO called Ocean's exit a "rug pull" and pursued legal action, and FET has lost more than 90% of its value from its 2024 highs, a reminder that the agent technology's real progress hasn't insulated token holders from Alliance politics and a brutal broader crypto market.
