AI-native diagramming tool that turns plain English or pasted code into architecture diagrams, ERDs, and sequence diagrams for engineering teams.

Eraser (legally Eraser Labs, Inc.) was founded in San Francisco in 2020 by Shin Kim, previously chief of staff to investor Elad Gil, alongside co-founders Ena Zheng and Jen Huang. The company launched an early version of its product as a general-purpose whiteboard for engineering teams, and TechCrunch covered its $4 million seed round in 2021, led by Caffeinated Capital. The product has since narrowed into AI-assisted technical diagramming and documentation: its DiagramGPT feature converts plain-language descriptions or pasted code into system architecture, entity-relationship, sequence, and cloud diagrams, paired with a docs editor for architecture decision records and runbooks. Diagrams are stored as version-controllable text rather than binary files, so engineering teams can track changes to system diagrams in Git alongside their code. Eraser remains a small, seed-stage company of roughly 30 people, competing with older diagramming incumbents such as Lucidchart and draw.io as well as newer AI-native entrants, and has said in press interviews that it has grown revenue without depending primarily on outside capital for day-to-day operations.
