DxO

French imaging software company behind DxO PhotoLab and PureRAW, built around its DeepPRIME AI denoising engine.

DxO's roots go back to Vision-IQ, a Paris start-up founded in January 1995 to apply computer vision to swimming-pool safety. Jerome Meniere, Vision-IQ's CEO, founded DO Labs in 2003, soon renamed DxO Labs, and pivoted the technology toward photography, launching DxO Optics Pro in 2004 with lens-and-sensor corrections based on the company's own optical measurements. That product line eventually became DxO PhotoLab. In early 2018, DxO Labs entered receivership in France after its DxO ONE camera-accessory hardware business ran into financial trouble, and the company shut down that hardware line. It refocused entirely on software, and has since gone on to win multiple TIPA awards, including Best Imaging Software for Professionals. Meniere has continued as the company's owner and CEO through that transition, and DxO remains a privately held company headquartered in Paris with roughly 90 employees. DxO's flagship technology is DeepPRIME, a neural network trained on large volumes of images to handle noise reduction and RAW demosaicing simultaneously, sold both inside the full PhotoLab editor and as the standalone PureRAW pre-processor.
