Dropzone AI was founded in 2023 in Seattle by Edward Wu, who spent eight years building the detection engine at network detection and response vendor ExtraHop before starting the company, and holds more than 30 patents in applied AI for cybersecurity. The company markets itself as building the "AI SOC Analyst" — autonomous agents that sit in the alert stream from a SIEM or XDR tool and perform the initial investigation and triage a human tier-1 analyst would otherwise do manually. Dropzone raised a $16.85 million Series A in April 2024 and a $37 million Series B in July 2025, both led by Theory Ventures with participation from Madrona, Decibel Ventures, Pioneer Square Labs, and In-Q-Tel, bringing total funding to roughly $57 million at an estimated valuation near $207 million. It is unusual in the category for offering a public, ungated test drive on its own website that anyone can try without a sales call.
