Daydream was founded in 2023 by Julie Bornstein, a retail-tech veteran who previously launched Nordstrom.com, scaled Sephora's digital business, served as COO at Stitch Fix, and founded the AI shopping app THE YES, which was acquired by Pinterest. The company is headquartered in Sacramento, California, with founding team members drawn from Google, Meta, Amazon, Pinterest and Farfetch. Daydream raised a $50 million seed round in 2024 co-led by Forerunner Ventures and Index Ventures, with additional backing from GV and True Ventures, and publicly launched its chat-based shopping agent in June 2025. Shoppers describe what they want in plain language or upload a screenshot from social media, and Daydream returns real, purchasable items rather than a chatbot description of what they might want, then routes the purchase to the retailer's own site. At launch, the platform had more than 200 retail and brand partners spanning roughly 8,000 fashion brands, including Levi's, Uniqlo, Madewell and Net-a-Porter, and it earns revenue through affiliate commissions on completed purchases rather than charging shoppers directly.
