Continue Dev, Inc. was founded in June 2023 by Ty Dunn and Nate Sesti, and was headquartered in San Francisco. The company developed Continue, an open-source, Apache 2.0-licensed AI code assistant for VS Code and JetBrains IDEs that let developers choose and configure any LLM -- cloud-hosted (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) or local (via Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp) -- rather than being locked into a single provider. After graduating from Y Combinator in late 2023, Continue raised about $2.1 million in initial funding, followed by a further $3 million in SAFEs led by Heavybit in 2025, bringing total funding to roughly $5.1 million. In May 2025, the company appointed open-source/infrastructure veteran Chad Metcalf as CEO, with co-founder Ty Dunn moving into a Chief Product Officer role. In June 2026, Cursor (Anysphere) acquired Continue in an acqui-hire; the standalone product was shut down, with its final release shipping June 19, 2026, hosted-platform data deletion following on July 15, 2026, and its GitHub repository made read-only, though the Apache 2.0 code remains available.
