Work-management platform bundling tasks, docs, chat, and whiteboards, with an AI layer called Brain built into every workspace.

ClickUp started in 2017 when Zeb Evans and Alex Yurkowski built an internal tool to replace the fifteen-odd apps their marketing agency was juggling, then spun it out as a standalone product. The pitch has stayed consistent since: instead of separate task, doc, chat, and spreadsheet tools, ClickUp tries to hold all of it in one configurable workspace, with views (list, board, Gantt, calendar) that teams can switch between without re-entering data. The company raised a $400 million Series C in 2021 at a roughly $4 billion valuation, backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Tiger Global, and has since layered AI across the product under the ClickUp Brain name. In December 2025 it acquired the AI coding startup Codegen, bringing founder Jay Hack on as Head of AI, a signal that ClickUp wants Brain to extend past project management and into building software itself. ClickUp is privately held and based in San Diego. Like much of the project-management category, it has gone through headcount reductions as it reworks its product around AI agents rather than just AI-assisted writing.
