AI video creation and editing company, now operating as Mirage; its flagship Captions app is used by millions of creators.

Captions was founded in 2021 by Gaurav Misra (CEO) and Dwight Churchill (COO) and is headquartered in New York City. The company built the Captions app, an AI-powered video creation and editing tool that lets creators generate, edit, and caption videos, including AI avatars and dubbing. Misra previously led design engineering at Snap. In July 2024, Captions raised a $60 million Series C led by Index Ventures, with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Adobe Ventures, and HubSpot Ventures, valuing the company at about $500 million and bringing total funding to roughly $100 million. In 2025, the company rebranded to Mirage to reflect an expanded focus on multimodal AI video research, while continuing to operate its consumer app as Captions. In March 2026, Mirage secured an additional $75 million in growth financing from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, bringing total funding to over $175 million.
