Singapore-based maker of Frame, open-source AI smart glasses with a micro-OLED display built for developers and early adopters rather than mainstream buyers.

Brilliant Labs was founded in 2019, originally out of Hong Kong, by Bobak Tavangar, a former Apple program lead; the company is now based in Singapore. It describes itself as an 'open eyewear' company, publishing hardware schematics and firmware for its glasses rather than keeping them closed, and has raised seed-stage funding from investors including Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe, Siri co-founder Adam Cheyer and Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky. Its current product, Frame, is a roughly 40-gram pair of glasses with a micro-OLED display bonded into the right lens, a camera on the bridge, and an on-device assistant called Noa that can identify objects, translate speech, and answer questions by drawing on external language models. Frame ships fully open source, with Lua, Python and Flutter tooling available for developers, and the company says its developer community numbers in the thousands. Brilliant Labs has continued building on the concept since Frame's 2024 launch, including a partnership with Liquid AI to run vision-language models directly on the glasses, aiming at developers and early adopters rather than the mainstream audience that larger players' smart glasses target.
