Berkeley, California startup whose AI song generator lets anyone pick a genre and style, then produces, releases, and collects streaming royalties on an original track in minutes.

Boomy was founded in Berkeley, California in 2018 by Alex Mitchell, whose earlier company Audiokite Research was acquired by ReverbNation, and Matthew Cohen Santorelli, with a mission to let people without musical training generate original songs and, crucially, release and monetize them directly on streaming platforms. The company has raised roughly $21.6 million, including a 2023 Series A backed by Founders Fund and Warner Music Group, and has a global distribution partnership with ADA, Warner's independent distribution arm. Users pick a genre and style, generate an instrumental in seconds, then can record vocals over it, request AI-generated vocals, or tweak the arrangement before releasing it to Spotify, Apple Music, and other services through Boomy's built-in distribution. The company says its more than 500,000 creators have generated over 14 million songs, a figure Boomy has publicly claimed represents a meaningful share of all recorded music in existence - a self-reported statistic rather than an independently audited one. Boomy's profile rose for less flattering reasons in 2024, when a U.S. federal streaming-fraud indictment named an unidentified "AI-music startup CEO" whom reporting and public songwriting credits linked to Mitchell as a co-writer on tracks used in the scheme; Boomy itself was not charged, and the company has since partnered with fraud-detection firm Beatdapp.
