Beautiful.ai was founded in 2015 by Mitch Grasso, a repeat entrepreneur who had previously founded presentation company SlideRocket (acquired by VMware in 2011). The company builds AI-powered presentation software that applies built-in design intelligence to automatically format and lay out slides as users add content, aiming to make professional-looking decks accessible to non-designers. Grasso served as CEO before transitioning to Chief Technology Officer in November 2021, when Jason Lapp, previously the company's President and COO, was promoted to CEO. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and says its software has been used to create more than 100 million slides by professionals in over 190 countries, with customers including Rakuten, Cvent, and Meltwater. Beautiful.ai raised a $5 million Series A in 2016 and an $11 million Series B in 2018 from investors including First Round Capital, Shasta Ventures, and Trinity Ventures. In March 2026, it secured an additional $45 million in non-dilutive growth financing from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund.
