Applitools was founded in 2013 by Gil Sever, Adam Carmi and Moshe Milman, who built a testing approach around what they call Visual AI: a perceptual model that compares screenshots the way a human eye would, ignoring anti-aliasing noise and dynamic content while still flagging genuine layout breaks, overlapping elements and rendering bugs that pixel-by-pixel diffing tools miss or drown in false positives. In 2021, private equity firm Thoma Bravo made a strategic growth investment in the company, with the founding team retaining a significant stake; Alex Berry took over as CEO in late 2023, with Adam Carmi and Moshe Milman continuing as CTO and COO. The company's Ultrafast Grid renders a single test capture across dozens of browser and viewport combinations in parallel, cutting cross-browser visual test suites that used to take hours down to minutes. Applitools now serves enterprise QA and DevOps teams across finance, retail and travel, with SDKs for Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium and most major test frameworks. Its two flagship products, Eyes and Autonomous, cover visual regression detection and AI-assisted natural-language test authoring respectively.
