Apple was founded on April 1, 1976, by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. It initially developed and sold personal computers, including the Apple I and Apple II. The company was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc. in California in 1977. Apple introduced the Macintosh in 1984, the iPod in 2001, the iPhone in 2007, the iPad in 2010, and Apple Watch in 2015. Its products combine company-designed hardware, operating systems, software, and services such as the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple Pay. Apple is headquartered in Cupertino, California, and is a public company whose common stock trades on Nasdaq under AAPL. Its 2025 Form 10-K reported approximately 166,000 full-time equivalent employees as of September 27, 2025. In AI, Apple develops on-device and cloud-supported machine-learning capabilities through Apple Intelligence, Apple-designed silicon, and foundation models. On September 1, 2026, John Ternus became CEO, succeeding Tim Cook, who became executive chair.
