Ambience Healthcare was founded in San Francisco in 2020 by Mike Ng and Nikhil Buduma, who had previously built Remedy Health together, with a focus on reducing the administrative load that ambient scribes alone don't fully solve: medical coding and revenue-integrity compliance. Nearly a fifth of the company's staff have direct clinical backgrounds, which the company points to as a factor in how its templates handle complex specialties like oncology and psychiatry. The company reached unicorn status in mid-2025 after closing a $243 million Series C co-led by Oak HC/FT and Andreessen Horowitz, with continued backing from the OpenAI Startup Fund, Kleiner Perkins and Optum Ventures, pushing its valuation to roughly $1.25 billion. Ambience's platform integrates natively into Epic's Toolbox, Hyperdrive and Haiku modules and has been deployed at health systems including Cleveland Clinic, supporting documentation and point-of-care coding across more than 100 specialties.
