Amazon Web Services (AWS) was launched in 2006 as the cloud computing division of Amazon.com, initially offering services such as S3 storage and EC2 compute. It grew into the largest cloud infrastructure provider in the world, offering compute, storage, database, and machine learning services to enterprises and developers globally. AWS's AI product line includes Amazon Bedrock, a managed service for building generative AI applications using foundation models from providers such as Anthropic, AI21 Labs, and Amazon's own Titan/Nova models, and Amazon Q Developer, an AI coding assistant integrated into IDEs and AWS tooling. AWS is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, as part of Amazon.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN), a publicly traded company. Andy Jassy, who previously led AWS, became CEO of Amazon.com in 2021; Matt Garman has served as CEO of AWS since June 2024.
