Luxembourg-based company behind AIVA, an AI system that composes original soundtrack music for film, games, ads and other media.

AIVA Technologies was founded in 2016 in Luxembourg by Pierre Barreau (CEO), Denis Shtefan (CTO), and Vincent Barreau (COO). The company builds AIVA (Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist), an AI model that composes original instrumental music for use in films, video games, advertising, and other digital media. In 2017, AIVA became the first virtual artist to have musical compositions registered with an authors' rights society (SACEM in France/Luxembourg). The company has received co-funding through the EU's Horizon 2020 programme. AIVA has raised funding across several rounds, including roughly EUR 650,000 in late 2017 and a EUR 1.5 million investment from Chinese internet company NetEase in 2020, bringing total disclosed funding to approximately $2.5 million. The company remains small, with roughly 2-10 employees.
