Spreadsheet-database hybrid for tracking projects, content, and CRM data, rebuilt around an AI layer called Omni that builds apps and automations from plain text.

Airtable was founded in 2012 in San Francisco by Howie Liu, Andrew Ofstad, and Emmett Nicholas, who set out to combine the flexibility of a spreadsheet with the structure of a relational database. The product lets non-technical teams build linked tables, custom views, and forms for use cases ranging from content calendars to inventory tracking to lightweight CRM, and it became a staple tool inside marketing, ops, and product teams at companies of every size. The company raised roughly $1.35 billion across seven rounds, including a $735 million Series F in December 2021 that valued it near $11 billion; more recent secondary trading has put the figure well below that peak. Airtable remains privately held. In 2025 Airtable repositioned itself as an AI-native app platform, folding its earlier Assistant and Cobuilder features into a single conversational layer called Omni, acquiring the AI startup DeepSky, and hiring a former OpenAI engineer as CTO. The company followed with Hyperagent, a standalone agent product spun out of the same push.
