Israeli AI company building foundation models (Jurassic, Jamba) and enterprise AI products, including the writing tool Wordtune.

AI21 Labs was founded in 2017 in Tel Aviv, Israel by Yoav Shoham, Ori Goshen, and Amnon Shashua. The company builds large language models and enterprise AI systems, including its Jurassic model family (launched 2021) and the Jamba family of hybrid Mamba-Transformer models (launched March 2024), as well as consumer products like the Wordtune writing assistant. AI21 Labs has raised over $600 million in total funding, including a $155 million Series C in August 2023 and a $300 million Series D in May 2025 led by Google and Nvidia. In September 2024 it partnered with AWS to make its Jamba 1.5 models available on Amazon Bedrock. In 2026 the company pivoted toward an AI agent orchestration platform called Maestro, which included a significant workforce reduction in May 2026. Ori Goshen and Yoav Shoham serve as Co-CEOs, with Amnon Shashua as Chairman.
