Norwegian-American robotics company building NEO, a humanoid robot for home chores, and EVE, its earlier commercial security and logistics robot.

1X Technologies was founded in 2014 in Norway by roboticist Bernt Øivind Børnich under the name Halodi Robotics, originally focused on industrial and commercial robot arms and mobile bases. The company rebranded as 1X in 2022 and shifted its center of gravity toward humanoid robots, with US operations headquartered in Palo Alto, California and manufacturing split between Hayward, California and Moss, Norway. 1X's earlier commercial product, EVE, is a wheeled humanoid used for security patrol and light logistics work at existing enterprise customers. Its newer and much higher-profile product, NEO, is a bipedal home robot opened for consumer preorder in 2024-2025, designed to fold laundry, tidy rooms, and handle other household chores, with tasks it can't yet do autonomously handled through a teleoperation system 1X calls Expert Mode. The company has raised over $100 million across Series A and B rounds from investors including EQT Ventures, Samsung NEXT, the OpenAI Startup Fund, and Tiger Global, and was reportedly in discussions in late 2025 to raise up to $1 billion more at a valuation near $10 billion, though that round had not been publicly confirmed as closed by mid-2026.
